Students are presented with Fair Play Award by Sir Paul Edwards

24 Hanson Academy athletes attended the Schools Partnership Trust Academy Games at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. The event incorporated all of the SPT academies from across the North of England. The Hanson students were brilliant throughout the day and the Under 13 Boys team finished second overall, which was a huge achievement.

The key highlight though was at the end of the event when Hanson Academy won the Fair Play award as recognition of the huge support and effort that every one of our students put into the event. The award was presented by Sir Paul Edwards Chief Executive of the School Partnership Trust

We are happy to announce that our long awaited new car park is now operational.

Dropping Off and Collecting Students

"In conjunction with West Yorkshire Police we have been advised to inform parents/carers that it is critical that students are continued to be dropped off or pick up from the GOALS  turning circle at the beginning and the end of the school day. Exceptions will be made in cases of disability.  We would also ask that you do not use Sutton Avenue at these times as this will be dangerous.

However, from 8:15 am until 2:40 pm (during the school day) the only entrance will be via Sutton Avenue."

Pedestrian entrances into school

  • Sutton Avenue – Gate will be open from 06:30 until the end of Community Use.

  • Goals Entrance – Gate will be open from 06:30 and padlocked at the start of the school day.  It will be  re-opened at 14:30 and gate will remain open until end of Community Use

  • Grove House – Gate will be open from 06:30 and padlocked  at the start of the school day. It will be reopened at 14:20 then locked for the night at 18:00

There is no student parking on site for 6th Form Students.

Hanson Students are runners-up in the Regional Finals
for the Spanish Spelling Bee Competition

Well done to Holly Byrne and Yasin Uddin from Year 7 for coming runners-up in the top 15 of the Regional Finals of the Spanish Spelling Bee competition which took place at the University of Hull.  Holly and Yasin had one minute to translate and spell as many words as possible using the Spanish alphabet. They competed against 30 others schools in the region totalling over 200 competitors. Enhorabuena!

New App for Parents

For some time we have used email and text messages to keep parents/carers informed.
We have to pay for text messages and this can add up to a lot of money.

We are now able to offer parents/carers a new smart phone app - School Gateway. The app is completely free, and cuts the costs of text messaging. Great news as the money saved can be better used elsewhere.

Hanson Celebrates Ofsted ReportOfsted [logo]

Hanson School is celebrating the latest Ofsted report which shows that the school is no longer judged to as requiring Special Measures, following a recent inspection.  The report says the school has made improvements in all areas and is now deemed to require improvement.

Principal Elizabeth Churton said: “We are delighted that the Special Measures judgement has been removed from the school.  Students and staff have all worked hard to bring about the improvements and I am very proud of them.  There is still a lot that we need to do in terms of school improvement, however the recent Ofsted judgement shows that we are now accelerating the rate of progress and expect to be able to achieve a ‘good’ judgement in the next full Ofsted inspection during 2014”.

Councillor Ralph Berry, Executive Member for Children’s Services said: “I am really pleased that Hanson School no longer requires Special Measures and the school does right to celebrate this. However, there are some key areas the inspectors say need tackling and the Council will be working with the school to address these.”
