I am very proud and fortunate to be leading an exciting and vibrant
faculty, which consistently performs well in examinations at KS4 and
KS5, and provides numerous extra curricular opportunities for
students to express themselves.
The Creative Arts faculty
has been under my direction for two years, and in that time has
developed curricular opportunities for students at all key stages,
with new Applied courses being introduced in Drama at KS4, Art at
KS5 and Music at KS3. We are a faculty consisting of eleven members
of classroom teaching staff, four technicians and five visiting
peripatetic music teachers. We have a strong mixture of maturity,
energy and experience, and as a team we work hard and regularly
socialise together. Above all, we share a collective ambition for
the Creative Arts to become a major force within the school.
We provide students with an impressive array of opportunities to
shine as performers, musicians and artists, with clubs, productions
and concerts held throughout the year. One particular activity to
note as a prospective entrant to the Art and Design team are the
Life Drawing classes held at Hanson for all Consortium Post 16
students.
In addition to the numerous extra curricular activities we offer are
the enrichment activities we have begun to extend to students.
These have included visits to London galleries, collaborative work
with Cartwright Hall, concert and theatre visits, performance
workshops in both Music and Drama and joint projects with other
faculty areas on specialist Media and Sustainability days for Year
8.
It is an increasingly exciting time to be involved in the Creative
Arts faculty at Hanson. We are one of the key areas to be developed
by opportunities to be created by the Building Schools for the
Future programme, which will clearly be highly beneficial to staff
and students alike.
Our vision is to raise the profile of the Creative Arts within the
school through innovative and enthusiastic teaching, leading to
effective learning. We will continue to strive for our goal, and
would welcome new members to our team who wish to join with us to
achieve this.
