Physical Education & Sport was rewarded for its hard work and growth
last year when it was given Faculty status having formerly been part
of the Creative and Expressive Arts Faculty. We have recently
expanded gaining two new teachers, a technician, an SSCo and the
Bradford North’s PDM. As Head of Physical Education & Sport, I am
fortunate to lead a successful and popular faculty that has been
awarded Sportsmark status.
PE
has built a reputation for achievement with GCSE results well above
the school average and a good proportion of students going on to
study either BTEC or A level Sport in the Sixth Form. We also have
students from several other schools and Bradford City FC apprentices
accessing post 16 courses at Hanson. Results in the sixth form
continue to improve year on year.
The
Faculty is well funded, well resourced and has excellent facilities.
We have a partnership with Goals UK, which provides floodlit
Astroturf pitches and a dance studio on site. A full time grounds
person maintains our outdoor areas to a very high standard. This
enables us to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, which is
accessed by all students including the Visually Impaired students
based at Hanson.
A
dedicated team of staff run a wealth of extra curricular activities
that are popular and well attended. Teams compete in a multitude of
inter-school sports including Netball, Badminton, Football, Rugby
League, Basketball, Rounder's & Cricket. We enjoy exceptional
success at local, regional and increasingly national level and are
fortunate enough to enjoy successful partnership links with many
local clubs and sporting organisations who support and extend our
provision.
We
celebrate our students’ success through an annual sports
presentation evening, where teams and individuals are rewarded in
recognition of their positive efforts and achievements. Male and
female Students in Year 10 are accredited with the honour of Sports
captain and students who have had particular success in representing
teams, are given half and full sports colours. The P.E. Faculty
place a strong emphasis on rewarding the outstanding work and
results that P.E. students achieve in the area and are recognised in
line with the whole school policy.
We
are committed to raising students’ achievement and participation in
Physical Education. With the innovative new facilities, Football
Foundation bid and the opportunities provided by the Building
Schools For Future Project, I am excited about the future
development of P.E. and Sport at Hanson School.
