Anti – Bullying Play in a Day
Nearing the end of term some of the Gifted and Talented
students in Year 8 took part in a “Play in a Day”. The
students involved had a day to learn and rehearse the
lines for the final production which was performed an
audience of Year 7 students. To recognise the end
of anti-bullying week, the play’s main theme was cyber
bullying, and aimed to explain bullying with particular
emphasis on the dangers of modern technology and the
internet.
Throughout the day, a professional director called Mark
Hayes worked with the students, teaching them the play
and giving them advice and encouragement. As the
audience walked in, the last details were being sorted
out and the play began. It was exciting from the start
because of the jokes that were cleverly thrown in, but
was still very helpful. They gave examples of bullying,
explained the dangers and gave simple tips to always
remember. All were said in a snappy, amusing way which
made all the information memorable. Their catchphrase:
“Think fast, click safe.”
To sum up the day Mark said “I thought they were
perfectly prepared for the task we were about to do.
They were sympathetic to each other’s problems and
troubles and came to them with level head and maturity
that the show needed and deserved. They were probably
the most dedicated group I've had in a long time!.” The
students involved really enjoyed the experience and look
forward to doing more similar projects.
