Below is the criteria teachers will use to identify where your child is.

A1 – Star Students

Work hard all the time.  Work is done to the highest level they are capable of.  Students sometimes do more than expected.  They are a delight to teach!

Star Students always:

·         Meet their targets.

·         Are on time to school and lessons.

·         Have 100% attendance record in your subject area.

·         Are fully equipped for all lessons – journal, pen, pencil, PE kit etc.

·         Give a quality audience to teachers and other students and follow the ABC Code.

·         Complete tasks/work to the best of their ability.

·         Hand in homework on time.

·         Take part successfully in group work.

·         Are willing to contribute to whole class discussions.

·         Think about their learning and what they need to do next.

They do everything their teachers expect.  They show that they enjoy their learning, always display positive behaviour and are a great role model for our school.  They should aim to remain to be star students by the next set of grades.

A2 – Promising Students

Always positive in class.  Contribute well to group work and discussions.  Almost always hand things in on time (allow for the odd slip up).

Promising students nearly always:

·         Meet their targets.

·         Are on time to school and lessons.

·         Have 95%+ attendance record in your subject area.

They do everything their parents and teachers expect.  They show that they enjoy their learning, have a positive disciplinary record and are a good role model for our school.  They should aim to be a star student by the next set of grades.

A3 - Working Students (most students fall into this category)

This is still a positive grade.  They perform at an acceptable level and cause no real worries.  They can be challenged to achieve A1 or A2.  They need to be told what they have to do in the specific subject to achieve these levels.

Fundamentally, this grade shows there can be improvement.  However, students should still feel good about themselves.  They should be encouraged to build on their success.

Working Students usually:

·         Meet or work toward their targets.

·         Arrive on time to school and lessons.

·         Have 93%+ attendance record in your subject area (should your child have a diagnosed medical complaint where their attendance is affected they will fall into this group).

·         Come fully equipped for all lessons – journal, pen, pencil, PE kit etc.

·         Give a quality audience to teachers and other students and follow the ABC Code.

·         Complete tasks/work to the best of their ability.

·         Hand in homework on time.

·         Take part successfully in group work.

·         Contribute to whole class discussions.

·         Think about their learning and what they need to do next.

Sometimes their behaviour stops their own learning and that of other students.  They don’t always seem to enjoy their learning.  They should aim to be a promising student by the next set of grades.

A4 – Wake Up Students

These students sometimes disrupt the learning and challenge the teacher.  They are underachieving and will not achieve their baseline target.

Sometimes Wake Up Students do not:

·         Meet or work towards their targets.

·         Arrive on time to school and lessons.

·         Have 90%+ attendance record in your subject area.

·         Come fully equipped for all lessons, journal, pen, pencil, PE kit etc.

·         Give a quality audience to teacher and other students and follow the ABC Code.

·         Complete tasks/work to the best of their ability.

·         Hand in homework on time.

·         Take part successfully in group work.

·         Contribute to whole class discussions.

·         Think about their learning and they need to do next.

Sometimes their behaviour stops their own learning and that of other students.  They don’t always seem to enjoy their learning.  They should aim to be a working student by the next set of grades.

A5 – Target Students

These students give serious concern.  They do not get to this level because of a one off incident.  They get this if the student regularly disrupts the learning, challenges the teacher and/or does not improve.

Target students often fail to:

·         Meet or even accept their targets.

·         Arrive on time to school and lessons.

·         Achieve 90% attendance record in your subject area.

·         Come fully equipped for all lessons – journal, pen, pencil, PE kit etc.

·         Give a quality audience to teacher and other students and follow the ABC Code.

·         Complete tasks/work to the best of their ability.

·         Hand in homework on time.

·         Take part successfully in group work.

·         Contribute to whole class discussions.

·         Think about their learning and what they need to do next.

·         To allow other students to learn.

·         To follow instructions.

Target students will be offered further help to improve their learning.  Their attitude and behaviour along with their success will be closely monitored.  They should aim to be a working student by the next set of grades.
