The LRC supports the curriculum throughout the
school by providing an environment that nurtures pupils’ reading
and information skills. Our aim is to develop both their ability
to gather and access information, ad their individual reading
tastes so that they become information literate and reading
adults.
Pupils have access to the LRC throughout the school day.
They may use it on an individual basis, or with a class group
to research a topic with one of their subjects. They can
also visit during break times, lunchtimes, and before and
after school. Our sessions after school (until 4pm Mon-Thurs.
and 3.30pm Fri) are very popular with pupils who wish to
complete homework before going home.
Staff are available throughout the day for advice and guidance,
and the LRC is managed by a professionally qualified librarian
with over 15 years experience of working in an educational
setting.
You can support the LRC by:
Encouraging your children to make good use of the LRC and
its facilities.
Fostering the reading habit at home and promoting the use of books, newspapers,
magazines, quality CD-ROMs and Internet sites, for information and pleasure
Being a good role model – be seen to be enjoying reading yourself
Encouraging your children to make use of other useful sources of reading and
information, especially local public libraries and museums.
Feedback from parents and carers is very welcome. If you wish to visit the
LRC, or discuss reading and information needs, please contact Mrs Sharrock
(LRC Manager) at school.
