Hanson Goes Green

Hanson held its first Sustainability Day Christmas Fair.

The Eco – Friendly Christmas Fair last Thursday night was an undoubted success with a large number of parents, students, staff, and other visitors attending. Many attendees wandered round the hall and the dining room carrying the Hanson reusable carrier bag designed especially for the event. There was a variety of interesting and enterprising stalls, good food and plenty of food for thought about how to develop our community and our world in a sustainable way. Excellent entertainment was provided by Key stage three Drama and Music students.  The veggie sausage tasters went down a treat and surprised a lot of people by how tasty they were.  People needed little encouragement to purchase the many cakes and buns on the 'Tree House' stall!

It was great to see so many different staff and students  strongly identifying with the school community in a good natured atmosphere.
Students  running the stalls were clearly learning elements of what it takes to run a business
.

Approximately £900 pounds profit was made and is being given to Practical Action a charity that supports sustainable development.

Young people who attended other schools were heard to say that they wished that their school could be like this!
