Text Box: Entry Requirements  -  5 grade A-C at GCSE.

AS and A2 Art provide students with an exciting opportunity to explore different areas of Art and Design

The course builds upon the skills, knowledge and understanding acquired by students taking Art at GCSE.
Although success at GCSE Art is not essential to study the AS, A2 course students will need to show evidence of ability in this area
The course can form the basis for further specialist study at degree level.
The course gives students the opportunity to:-

Develop intellectual, imaginative, creative and intuitive powers.
Investigate, analyse, experiment
Develop aesthetic understanding and critical judgement
Develop knowledge and understanding of the role of other artists’ designers 	and crafts people
Visit art galleries and museums and take part in community based work and 	 life drawing classes.

At AS level students will have to complete units of study:

Research Projects - students submit two projects with supporting work
Personal Investigation - students research other artists’ work by theme, style or time period and make visual and other recordings of materials processes and techniques.
Controlled Assignment - this unit allows students to demonstrate independently their abilities in response to a set of questions.  They are given preparation time to research, record, investigate and select relevant mediums and processes.  Students must produce a focused piece off work in a 5 hour examination.
At A2 level students will have to complete a further three units of study.
Specialist Project - One project form chosen area of study
Personal Study - in depth critical study containing written and/or visual research, same area as study above.
Controlled test - Externally set question paper 15 hours duration, same area of study as above.
   

At AS Level students can study either one or two of the following areas
	Drawing
	Painting
	Printmaking
	Sculpture
	Alternative Media
