Entry Requirements  -  5 grade C at GCSE.

 

Citizenship may be offered as a course for 2007.

 

This is a one year course designed to enhance a student’s knowledge and
understanding of current affairs, and the social and political issues affecting the UK.  It is an excellent accompaniment to other level 3 subjects and is recognised by
Universities as being a useful complementary subject.

 

The course comprises of three modules:

 

· The Citizen and the State.

           -  The criminal justice system

           -  Legal rights and responsibilities

 

· The Citizens and the Political process.

           -  The functions and levels of government

           -  Political partners and political ideologies

 

· The Citizen, Society and Community.

           -  Life differences based on social class, gender and ethnicity

           -  Socialisation

           -  Community based action

 

The course is assessed in two written exams and one piece of coursework.
