Text Box: AS / ‘A’  LEVEL GOVERNMENT & POLITICS
Text Box: Entry Requirements  -  5 grade A-C at GCSE.
In Year 12 students study 3 units of study which can lead to an A/S or it may be the first half of a full ‘A’ Level qualification.

Unit 1 – People and Politics
This unit introduces students to the study of politics by looking at ideas of citizenship, democracy, electoral systems, political parties and pressure groups.
Unit 2 – Governing the UK
This unit provides an introduction to the major institutions of UK Government, examines their relationship with one another and considers their effectiveness.  Students study the Parliament, the Prime Minister, Cabinet, Civil Service and the Judiciary.
Unit 3 – The Changing UK System
The unit examines key issues affecting the development of the UK system and considers the impact and desirability of political and constitutional change.
e.g. 	Is the EU a threat to sovereignty?
	How united is the UK?
	Is there a need for constitutional reform?

A2  The full ‘A’ Level contains:
Unit 4C - Representation in the USA
Unit 5C - Governing the USA.
Unit 6C  - Comparative UK and US politics. 
Assessment is by written examination.
