Text Box: AS/ ‘A’ LEVEL SOCIOLOGY Text Box: Entry Requirements - 5 grade A-C at GCSE. Sociology will consist of 6 modules of work, 3 in Year 12 (AS) and 3 in Year 13. It is likely that the course will be examined at the end of Year 12 and the end of Year 13 rather than in a strictly modular way. The aims of Sociology are to ensure students have: 1) an understanding of social issues. 2) an appreciation of theoretical and conceptual issues. 3) an awareness of social theory. The course will have two major themes: A) Socialisation, culture and identity. B) Social differentiation, power and stratification. Modules taught will be: Module 1 The Family Module 2 Education Module 3 Social Methods Module 4 Religion Module 5 Social Theory Module 6 Crime and Deviance Key Skills and wider key skills will be delivered through both the ‘AS’ and full ‘A’ Level.
