Text Box: Entry Requirements  -  5 grade A-C at GCSE and Grade B or above in GCSE Design and Technology or a distinction in GNVQ Art and Design.

Design and Technology offers candidates a fantastic opportunity to gain personal satisfaction and a positive experience from working with a wide ranging variety of materials.  The practical problem solving processes in this course will encourage independent learning, creativity and innovation.

At Hanson School we currently offer two courses:  Product Design and Textile Design

Both courses are concerned with the manufactured world that is all around us.  Most things we come into contact every day have been designed and manufactured by somebody.  From the clothes we wear to the cars and buildings around us.

These creative courses are an ideal way to access further education and careers in a wide variety of areas.  Some of our students have gone on to study the following courses at university:  Architecture, Graphic Design, Fashion and Textile Design, Fashion and Business, Product Design, Industrial Design, Fine Art Foundation and many others.

AS Examinations
Unit 1, written paper—1 1/2 hours.  Materials and Components
30% of the total AS marks.  15% of the total  ‘A’  Level marks.

Unit 2, coursework—Approximately 40 hours
40% of the total AS marks.  20% of the total  ‘A’  Level marks.
This unit allows you to develop your personal interests through a range of media, either as an integrated project work or a design portfolio of coursework.

Unit 3, written paper—1 1/2 hours.  Design and Market Influences
30% of the total AS marks.  15% of the total  ‘A’  Level marks.

A2 Examinations
Unit 4, coursework—Approximately 20 hours. Product Study
15% of the total  ‘A’  Level marks.

Unit 5, coursework—Approximately 50 hours
15% of the total  ‘A’  Level marks.
A single, integrated coursework project using any material or combination of materials that interest you in an area of your choice.

Unit 6, written paper—3 hours
20% of the total  ‘A’  Level marks.
